Kenneth, Keekee and Shawntay
Kenneth, Keekee and Shawntay are cousins. Shawntay has been on the streets for the past six years, since she was fifteen and her foster mother died. Kenneth and Keekee are a bit older; they’re her family now. Their adjoining tents were some of the nicer ones on South Beaudry. Kenneth: “It don’t look like much to you, maybe, but this is our home.”
All the tents on South Beaudry were bulldozed and hauled away by the Department of Sanitation.
This image is from a series of portraits of people living on the street in Los Angeles. My goal is to create a hardcover, fine-art photography book aimed at transforming the perception of homeless people from alienation to familiarity.
